Unmute - Bonus Episode
Maggie PattenHi , my name's Whitten and I'm Maggie , and welcome to part two of episode two of Unmute . If you have not listened to our last episode , you'll be fairly lost , so I recommend that you go back and listen to that . Since this is an extension of that episode , you'll be entirely lost okay . We just pick up right in the middle of it .
Whitten MontgomeryWe recorded this as one episode .
Maggie PattenYeah , it got a little lengthy and so we have decided to break it up into two , so you really must go back and listen to that one . But as a recap of our last episode , we covered mine and Whitten's trip back to North Carolina , Whitten getting arrested and her time in jail , so now we're going to get into , after jail , the house the next day and getting back to Kentucky .
Whitten MontgomeryAnd just a reminder , to have a trigger warning in all these episodes , because this does cover domestic violence and that's something we want to take very seriously . So always make sure we include that in all the episodes and to note that we have changed the names to protect all the .
Maggie PattenProtect all the guilty parties that are involved .
Whitten MontgomeryNot just them , but everyone else involved and my ability to tell the story . Yeah , so we hope you enjoy part two of episode two of Unmute . So to help you dive back into that story , let's go back to hell . Let's go back to the worst day of my life . I had been unjustly incarcerated after calling the police for help . As's go back to hell . Let's go back to the worst day of my life .
Whitten MontgomeryI had been unjustly incarcerated after calling the police for help .
Whitten MontgomeryAs I went back to my house , I was not only innocent , but I was actually being arrested for a crime that had been committed against me and it was rewritten to say that I was a perpetrator instead of the victim .
Whitten MontgomeryI spent four terrifying hours in jail , but during that time my phenomenal family and Maggie helped get me an amazing criminal attorney and I was able to leave after those four hours . I walked out and right at the end of the jail exit hallway there was Maggie . So as soon as I got out and Maggie embraced me and my prison smells , she , she informed me that we did not get to just go back to the hotel , but we immediately had to go see my lawyer . Yes , because he I think he had the piece of paper that I needed , like I had to specifically get the piece of paper I was required to hold and like be with like from him Right and he also was cause he had been with the judge . So when I was tuned in on video screen to the judge , my lawyer was actually in the room with the judge . I wasn't in a space to drive . Maggie drove the rental car and took us to the lawyer's office .
Maggie PattenYes , which ?
Whitten Montgomeryis very close to the courthouse , I learned , but not that close to the jail , like close but not that close .
Maggie PattenIt's right next to the courthouse , right next to the courthouse which is great , because that's where he ran to get the judge , yes , so so we went there , went and went back to his office and he recommended that I did not go back . I think I said fuck that you did . But oh , he said you couldn't come still . But then pretty much he was like you don't need to , because when I came out , you were on the phone with your sister crying , okay oh yeah , I didn't go back at all I was back there , okay .
Whitten Montgomerywell , I went back into his office and he was pithy , and I mean that in the way that he was short and succinct pithy , pithy , just quick . He would just answer the questions and I don't hear anybody say that I'm sorry . Okay , he was just very , very hurt in his responses and he was not like I want people to have to Google pithy . Okay , go , google pithy and then come back to us . We'll be here and I adore him head to toe now Walked into the earth to this man .
Whitten MontgomeryYes , I mean the fact that he got me to the judge that day when I was not supposed to be able to get out . But when I went there , I had so many questions and I was telling him about the story and telling him what happened and he was like , well , it doesn't matter that you're innocent , it's a she said , she said situation and it's just you're going to have to go there . You have to , a hundred percent , come back to go to court . You're the , you're the person with criminal charges . This is on you , he , he did listen to my story and he was like I , he's the reason I acquired all the body cam footage . He's like I'm going to acquire the body cam footage because there's no way that you are going to go down for these charges , because there's footage of you that night .
Whitten MontgomeryRight , so body cam footage from the night of the attack . Yes , from the night of the attack . And that's why , when we reference the attack , I say I've actually re-looked at it through body cam footage . And that is all thanks to this wonderful lawyer .
Maggie PattenThis is a different lawyer . When you first were put into handcuffs yes , that was my family .
Whitten MontgomeryYes , so this is . He is my criminal lawyer and I would recommend him . He will never come to an episode with me . In fact , I'd be grateful if he listened to this . If you do , thank you . But he was phenomenal , but he was not like nurturing in any way , and we will get to this . As I was preparing to go to court whatever I would have questions for him he was always just like I have murderers I'm dealing with , can you just your situation's not so great , but I'm like what should I wear ? So ? But he was very kind but quick and pithy , and I was very unhappy to learn that I was innocent and had to come back to go to court , and I didn't want to come back in three weeks . In fact , I never wanted to see Pasture Town or the nearby city ever again in my life , but in fact that was what had to happen , because now I was on criminal charges like a criminal , right Right . So I go out and I see you sitting on the stoop outside his office and you're talking to your sister Wow .
Maggie PattenThis part's a bit of a blur . I don't even remember like what . I think we went to a grocery store and got a box of wine . I needed a drink like stat . I needed like a fucking IV of straight vodka into my veins after that day .
Whitten MontgomerySorry that sounds awful .
Maggie PattenWe should probably cut that . It was just a pretty rough day and like that's me saying that you went through a terrible day , like much worse day .
Whitten MontgomeryNo , we need to . We will do a whole episode of telling her side of it , her side of a lot of this Cause we're . She's my closest friend and this is all very hard on her too , but I want to emphasize that the fact that we went to a grocery store and got M&M's and wine- is like survival mode .
Whitten MontgomerySurvival mode . Yeah , and then we did door-to-door food , because I remember not eating it and I remember you telling me that I should be eating because I hadn't eaten all day , because we didn't I mean , I didn't when . I was arrested right did I eat in jail ?
Maggie Pattenno , I'm sure you didn't . I'm sure did they even offer you food they did .
Whitten MontgomeryThey asked if I wanted food .
Maggie PattenOh , I said no and I did we even eat anything that morning , because we went straight to the house like if we went in the morning we didn't eat so , but we knew the next day we still had to go back to my house in Pasture Town .
Whitten MontgomeryAnd now me rule follower is like , and I'm the owner of the property , so I have to go , but I can't be there without the police , right ? So we didn't sleep . Well , I remember that I couldn't sleep . I was very anxious and upon checkout from jail , it's not quite checkout , it's whatever your ejection is called when you're leaving jail . It's whatever your ejection is called when you're leaving jail . It's not a pleasant process . A book out instead of a book in , I don't know .
Maggie PattenWell , they say dress out and dress , in which I know I taught you in the last episode . Okay , maybe that's where I got that from .
Whitten MontgomeryYeah , yeah , yeah , yes . So , yes , dress out and dress in . After I was dressed out and not wearing orange , they did explain to me that , because of the way that the charges were , I could not be at the house without the police there , and so , to go back to the house , they said that you know , typically , because you're the one who the charges are against , the police will only want to stay there for like 15 minutes max . You can get a couple of things and get out of the house .
Whitten MontgomeryAnd I was thinking that's very inconvenient because I want to get everything that was left there that I could get . So we we did call the Pasture Town Police , I remember on our way there , and we took our rental car and went there . So you have a bit more insight on the status of my car at the house .
Maggie PattenYeah , I mean not a ton , but while you were in jail I spent some time at the house because I didn't know what to do with myself and I just wanted to try to be productive in some way . I knew that one of the goals was to get your car and to drive it back , and you know we'd already talked about it and you know , talked to your dad a lot about it , who knows everything about cars , and that we needed to get it inspected just to make sure that nothing no foul play or anything like that had had happened to the car . And I turned it on and I knew it started . Um so um , I think it probably would have been really funny if you had had some sort of outdoor camera doing this , because I wouldn't have been paying for anything .
Maggie Pattenat this point , the power was out but it just would have been hilarious to see .
Maggie PattenSo I was very concerned that , like sugar or salt or whatever the fuck you put in um in the in the fuel , the gas tank , uh , had been , had been tampered with , and so I like leaned a go-go gadget arm , leaned in this car and started it and like , ran away and the car started . So that was a good sign and it didn't explode Fair . But anyway , yes , I had spent some time packing up as much as I could , or just the most random packing of your house and putting some stuff in the car .
Whitten MontgomeryWe'll get into that because there was very little left of the house to pack .
Maggie PattenYes , but when you did start the car car , you noticed that the gas tank was . It was completely empty . I mean , like I can't . I was surprised it turned on . It was , you know , the gas light was on , but it was like past e um and I would never leave the car like that in my life right .
Maggie PattenSo it was obvious that it had been run down to past e on purpose . We were to start to find a lot of things that had been done on purpose On purpose In the house , for sure , around the house , which we've already discussed a little bit .
Whitten MontgomeryBut when we went back into the house I think you know we we didn't enter . So let's pause here for a second . I wouldn't enter into the past till the pasture town police were there . I was very afraid about my previous day's antics in jail to do anything without permission . So as soon as the police arrived , it was police , I saw during the booking .
Whitten MontgomerySo the Pasture Town Police Department's not that large , no , so a lot of them had already been acquainted with me and they were incredibly kind and super helpful and supportive and not going anywhere and not giving us any sort of time limit Right Upon entry , because I'd already dealt with the fact of seeing my house with all of the furniture and everything stolen . This time the stench , I think , was the biggest thing that was noticeable upon entering the house , probably because too , I think maybe the fridge had been opened briefly , I think so . It smelled so bad because when my lawyer told her that we were no longer going to be paying the electrical bills and she let them go out , she filled it with raw chicken and milk chicken and milk .
Maggie PattenThere were , just so there were . There was a normal size refrigerator , you know big fridge freezer in the kitchen and then just through the kitchen was like your kind of pool room , you know the , the , the wet room or whatever . And there was another full size fridge there .
Whitten MontgomeryIt was full size .
Maggie PattenAnd there were so many gallons of milk in each one of them and there was so much raw chicken in each one of them . It was very obvious that that was done on purpose . It was very calculated , that was . And I haven't eaten chicken for probably pushing eight years , I don't know .
Whitten MontgomeryRegardless , I don't fucking eat chicken , and largely because of raw chicken , and it just grosses me out and we'll just get back to that in a minute probably well , I'm glad we know that maggie's poultry preferences , um , I think we touched on this a little bit before , but there are certain almost staged areas that are left in the house that are super triggering and traumatic and I do want to make sure we go through each of those before we move forward into packing up the house . And to me having to talk to the detective while you did God's work in the fridge , that's right . Um , so the ? Um .
Intentional Torture
Whitten MontgomeryThe beverage that we had that night we've talked about the kale tonics was made from vodka . It was the basis , the alcohol , and we would pour our alcohol . After we got married we got this decanter and it said ours on the decanter and we had these two glasses that said like yours and mine , and then the decanter said ours , gross .
Whitten MontgomeryThat decanter was set in the center of one of the counters in the kitchen with oranges around it all around it filled still , like there was still some drink in it , yeah , but all the other liquor had been taken . So it was just this random decanter with oranges around it left there from the night that . The night that it happened .
Whitten MontgomeryUpstairs in my room there was the hulk ornament that she I had always said that I wanted to be strong and she would tell me I could be the pink hulk , and it was shattered with a little note next to it said narcissist . And another one that just disturbs me a lot was so , uh , we rode motorcycles a fair amount , and my motorcycle helmet was left and it had deflated balloons all around it , so I'm guessing that she thought I might return sooner and just wanted it surrounded by balloons I guess , like all these balloons , so there was some intentional staging very intentional yeah , and what was left was also very intentional .
Whitten MontgomeryShe just took a lot of things , except for she took everything except things that were like .
Maggie PattenShe left your bedroom , except she didn't .
Whitten MontgomeryShe strip the sheets yes , she took the sheets , she took some of the pillows she left . She left the actual bed . She strip the sheets ?
Maggie PattenYes , she took the sheets . She took some of the pillows . She left the actual bed . She left the dresser . She left some clothes in your closet , but Not all of them , right , she took a lot of them , she took the nice clothes and she left like stuff in your bathroom , but I mean literally the rest of the house except for that giant ass dining room table that no one could have taken Right . Like everything else was gone .
Whitten MontgomeryWell , it's actually really crazy to think about it too , because there was a little bit of furniture left in the pool room , and I think that the rooms that had furniture left in them were the rooms that didn't have shades , because there were no shades in the dining room either .
Maggie PattenThat's right .
Whitten MontgomerySo then , if someone was to look in the windows of the house , because I got the house checked on every weekend by the Pasture .
Maggie PattenTown police , then they would think that everything just looks chummy .
Whitten MontgomeryAll fine and good . So any window that you could look in looked like there was still stuff inside of it , but all the other blinds were drawn , drawn , like the blinds for the living room . The blinds to all the other areas were shut , yeah , and a lot of personal items of mine that were very important were missing . So that was just very heartbreaking . Maggie , the day before during my vacation , did some packing , so some of my clothes were already packed , but I had a CRV so with the seats down it could fit a fair amount . Yeah , I remember when Maggie was packing together with me and she was talking about what suitcases she was going to bring and I was like , well , don't bring a lot , bitch , because we're going to take all my stuff home with us . She was like I can fit a lot in a suitcase and I was like , well , don't .
Maggie PattenBring a knapsack . Bring a knapsack with a pair of uns , and that's all you get .
Whitten MontgomeryWell , anyways , we packed the shit out of that car , though we did that day . I needed to do a lot of identity theft charges because I was in the place where my identity theft started , and so the detectives in the area and I'd already been talking to the police which it's a little bit unfortunate that I'd been talking to the police about these cases and they still arrested me , but I understand that that's what they had to do .
Maggie PattenThey did have to do that , but I don't think any of them wanted to . I mean , a lot of them expressed that throughout that day .
Whitten MontgomeryI felt like we were in the police hangout of the day , because they kept visiting and they also had always , I guess , wanted to see the inside of the house , so they were calling their friends to come hang out in the house .
Maggie PattenOh , it was kind of hilarious like in like dark humor kind of way . But yeah , these different police officers would just roll up throughout the day and she'd be like I just always wanted to see what this house actually looked like on the inside . This kitchen's amazing and they're just walking around , and Wynton's like yeah , it was amazing until everything got stolen . I mean , it's just like it was such a fucked up like juxtaposition of like what's what is happening and what they're doing here and like yes , it was .
Whitten MontgomeryAnd it's weird too , because a lot of them would even be like we're so sorry we had that . And the guy who arrested me was like I . He was like I really thought you'd get out that day . I'm so glad you didn't . Well , they didn't act like I was going to once I went in there , but but he was , he was very kind and he actually helped me with some other stuff . I actually started to text with him and he helped me . I mean , all of the police really were truly kind people and I .
Whitten MontgomeryI hate that I still have an irrational fear of the police , but it's no longer irrational because they arrested me when I was innocent and called them for help , correct , and that's really shitty , because that's shitty to think that way , but it's what happened , correct ? So I needed to speak to the detective about identity theft stuff and he came and he wanted to do it , right then .
Maggie PattenWell , he wanted to sit at the dining room table because that was the only spot to sit down and that was right next to the kitchen and little kind Maggie over here , maggie being Maggie and not knowing what to do in a stressful situation except for try to be productive , I decided that that was the ideal time to try to clean out the refrigerator . Just remember that the water is cut off as well as the electricity , so Can't puke there , can't puke it . Can't wash your hands . You can't wash anything off your hands that your hands touch . And like I know that I wasn't touching the actual raw chicken , but the level of swollenness that the gallons of milk had grown to . Oh yeah , bitch . I mean , I could smell it , I wasn't touching it . One wrong move and the gallon of milk was going to explode all over me , or all over the kitchen , and like my only . My thought was if something goes down and , like it , busts all over me , I'm going to have to run and jump in the green pool , like the green algae pool .
Whitten MontgomeryI'm glad that that was your idea .
Maggie PattenI had no other option . I felt like at the time .
Whitten MontgomerySo , as the detective's speaking with me , it starts to get really , really , really rank . The smell is very bad and sweet Maggie's in the kitchen just doing the Lord's work , as I've said . So we went outside , maggie came with us and a couple other officers who were on site with us . You know , in the hangout of the town of the day , um came outside with us and you know that's when Maggie and I kind of started started to ask like so get any other crazy cases like this in these parts and Maggie I'll , I'll , let you say , let you say what they said how exciting in these parts , in this here parts , uh , yeah , we were getting chummy with uh , with our officer friends outside , because they honestly were just couldn't be nicer , so we were shooting the shit .
Maggie PattenAnd they said that the main crimes that they tend to deal with is , uh , folks stealing meat from the piggly wiggly because , uh , those steaks they said the steaks are the best .
Whitten MontgomeryDon't go anywhere else . Get your steak . Only go to the piggly wiggly the best .
Maggie PattenDon't go anywhere else to get your steak . Only go to Piggly Wiggly .
Whitten MontgomeryThat's right . Go to the Piggly Wiggly if you can and if you want to sponsor us Piggly Wiggly , we are here , shh Stupid , but we are sorry about the crime you're experiencing . I hope Pasture Town's helping you . So so , maggie and I we do we sometimes just kind of like we'll be in a weird situation . We'll be like remember that Piggly Wiggly steak story Because it was just like we're dealing with , like like this is like identity theft , domestic violence , like like craziness , oh yeah , and then and then the steaks from the Piggly Wiggly .
Maggie PattenSo Pasture Town Police might not have really been as equipped to deal with this kind of situation , but they sure were nice and boy , were they trying ?
Whitten MontgomeryThey sure were . So I did . I gave all of my information to the detective . We went back and forth on certain things . Then we packed up most of the house by now , so there wasn't very much in it . So along the perimeter of the garage there were these several storage units that could all be locked by a padlock . Yeah , and we had never locked them by a padlock , but mysterious situation , and lizzie was involved and decided to lock every single one of these things with a padlock and these are like six by six .
Maggie PattenI mean , these are like not , but I had stored a lot of we knew , one of them was like christmas stuff . Yeah , this is like smaller things , whatever .
Whitten MontgomeryWhatever you'd put in an outdoor storage unit that didn't need to be climate controlled . Yeah , and I particularly cared about my Christmas ornaments , because I have a collection from my godfather that's very important to me , right ? So there were all these padlocks along each one of these , and I'd say I think there were about four that we had to go through Three or four .
Maggie Pattenyeah .
Whitten MontgomeryAnd there weren't keys anywhere , because why would she make it convenient ? She wouldn't we you .
Maggie PattenI think that well , I think I first asked the police if they had the tools , something that they said they did . But yeah , they were like yeah , we've got crowbars and stuff like that . We can't provide that for you because I guess they couldn't help us break into something that was yours , I don't know .
Maggie PattenSo you know , pasture Town Hardware was right down the street and this was actually . This was a really good hardware store , and I love a hardware store . You know they've got , they've got plants , they've got all sorts of stuff Right down the street Couldn't have been nicer . When I walked in , because I'm , you know , wandering around like I know what I'm looking for , and I said I'm looking for something that I can cut a padlock with . You know , do you have ? And they said , oh , you need some bolt cutters . And I was like perfect . And then they showed me a couple different options and I was like the bigger the better . So I got these massive bolt cutters .
Whitten MontgomeryAnd I went of bolt cutters and uh went back and I was hanging out with the police alone because you know I'm used to that these days .
Maggie PattenOh jesus , so get back to the house .
Escape and Emotional Bonding
Maggie PattenAnd hilarity ensued . It doesn't ?
Whitten Montgomerythe police who were there and they were all so nice and they could not help us with this . And out of the two of us , maggie is stronger I am , I don't know about that . Well , I , I think that I have you start with the bolt cutter . So the perception for me is that you are stronger . So maggie had the bolt cutters and we thought , well , I in my head , I thought well , maggie's just gonna snip these damn things open oh yeah , I'm just gonna snip a fucking padlock open with these giant bolt cutters .
Maggie PattenI I could not do that , and we got got the long ones too . And I know the leverage is supposed to really help you , but it didn't . It did not .
Whitten MontgomeryOur solution ? Well , we just decided to use both of our weights to lead into this . So , in fact , now I am on top of Maggie with her force and then my weight .
Maggie PattenBut this is a standing situation too . So we've got the bolt cutters on the padlock and like I'm on , Like they're braced against the side of the building , the side of the garage , and then I'm holding the other side and then Whitten's just like Leaning on me , pushing on me . Even though it was like force . It was like one , two , three , boom , we had to , and it fucking worked . It did work Like a dream and it kind of hurt , I'm sure , but we did that three times and three times and three times .
Whitten MontgomeryWhat did we find ? Thrice or four times , however many times we did it , I think . The first three we found nothing , yeah . And then the fourth one we found like the box of the christmas stuff emptied out yeah , so it's really sad . It was actually quite depressing to see there was there was some like christmas crap stuff left . I do think we found like maybe four or five boxes . She didn't get little ornaments , she didn't get right , but the majority were gone .
Whitten MontgomeryYeah , but this means she literally went out and bought padlocks and kept the keys to just lock these things , knowing that then I would think maybe some of my stuff in there something that mine , that I would want from my past . Yeah , I mean , we're talking like losing your whole life , every picture , every like item you save up , saved up for everything is just gone , because I left with the clothes on my back and Finn .
Maggie PattenI mean , this individual is just the true definition of a psychopath , and I think that I always I always assumed that sociopath was , was worse than a psychopath , and you and I have talked about this . Since all of this has happened and you have read the definition of a psychopath . To me , should we put it up ? Oh , that'd be good . Yeah , psychopath Lack of guilt , remorse , empathy , pretending to feel emotion , inability to form true emotional attachments , tend to be successful Eh , questionable Dishonesty , manipulative behavior , narcissism and superficial charm .
Whitten MontgomeryThat is like the big ding ding ding right here , whereas a sociopath says lack of remorse , but guilt and empathy may be present in some cases . Some emotions are felt but are shallow and fleeting . May form close attachments , but to a few individuals Consistent irresponsibility and repeated violations of the law , constant lying and deception , aggressive and reckless behavior . So a psychopath is more calculated . Yes , and I think that's what we were dealing with . Yes , yes . So thank you , simplypsychologycom , because neither Maggie nor I claim to be a doctor .
Maggie PattenNo , no , not at all .
Whitten MontgomerySo , after we loaded up all the five Christmas ornaments that we could find , and left the house as secured as possible because , due to legal proceedings , I couldn't do much with it . I still just had to have the Pasture Town police checking on it . Maggie and I had the car towed to the dealership . It was filled with my stuff that we towed to the dealership .
Maggie PattenThe Honda dealership there and it was filled with my stuff that we were going to take with us .
Maggie PattenSo we get your car and because it had been so drained of gas , we , like on a wing and a prayer , we made it to the gas station that was across the street from Honda . I'm sure Honda has like a gas pump . They probably could have put some in it . I don't know why that didn't happen . They didn't . We ran to get gas . Oh , I mean , like you were in the rental car , I was in the rental car still .
Whitten MontgomeryYeah , because then we went to drop off at the airport .
Maggie PattenYeah , Okay , so we got gas , took the car , took the rental car back and we got the fuck out of there .
Whitten MontgomeryWe did and we had like big dreams , for you know , like getting out and not looking back , like we just wanted to get as far as we could that night , but not , it was later in the day , we weren't going to drive all nine and a half hours that day .
Maggie PattenI think our trip and also like emotionally exhausted hadn't slept really .
Whitten MontgomeryI'm pretty sure our trip took a day longer then . So thank you for that . Oh yeah , pretty sure our trip took a day longer than so thank you for that . Oh yeah we've made trips take longer before . This isn't our first time in our first trip friends who know this about us , who are listening to us .
Maggie PattenWell , yep , it happened again but that was our first real , that was our first extension wouldn't , be our last maggie .
Whitten MontgomeryMaggie drove the first night and we ended up in a small , cute little town with a minor baseball league team I don't remember minor baseball league team .
Maggie PattenDid we like our hotel was by sports or not ? Is that not a thing ? Minor league baseball team ? He said minor baseball league team , but that was cute , that was cute . I'm sorry , we were in a , cute we , we were in a . I honestly I can't remember . I don't know if we're just not saying , but I can't remember exactly where we were .
Whitten MontgomeryNo , I just remember that Maggie didn't trust my hotel instincts and I was right . I didn't like , we were , just it was late . She was like it doesn't need to be a nice place , and I was like Maggie it has to be a nice place , that's true . She couldn't win this one .
Maggie PattenIt was actually a very nice hotel and it was right across the street from a minor league baseball stadium , which was very cute . It was actually a very sad little night . It was , I think , that because we were out of Pasture Town and felt maybe sort of safe and away from that , we could both kind of Break down . Break down a little bit .
Whitten MontgomeryOh , we had a very emotional night . We were supposed to watch like a movie about witches .
Maggie PattenWe were going to watch the witches of Eastwick Wouldn't have never seen it , still hasn't .
Whitten MontgomeryStill hasn't seen it . Let's fix that . But we just we didn't need to talk in the two of us . We mean it was a big emotional thing and I think that prior to this , I mean , we we'd been really close friends for a while , we'd both been through some shit together anyways , and we'd we'd not like completely fully rebonded and I think everything was very solidified for that night .
Whitten Montgomeryafter what we went through , right , it was a good night , but an emotional night , yeah , and the next fucking morning trying to get that free breakfast at the hotel or whatever , but like just our free coffee because you found a cute spot to brunch , I did . There was like five police officers coming in .
Maggie PattenThere was literally one .
Whitten MontgomeryFive .
Maggie PattenSure , but I understand that it felt that way . I freaked out After her previous 48 hours . It was not good , so we left the hotel like immediately .
Whitten MontgomeryWe were just like in this room .
Maggie PattenYeah , it was the same where the breakfast was . We were just going to get coffee , I think , and or no , we probably were going to get the breakfast , but we did not because there was a , a uniformed police officer , just in the hotel . Um , he entered , he did he came into the hotel . He entered . He did . He came into the hotel and we immediately exited the back door . Bless her heart that was so scary , so we got the fuck out of there as fast as we could and found just the cutest little brunch spot .
Whitten MontgomeryMaggie did find the cutest spot . We had a good time . Did you leave them a review ? I feel like you did . If I didn't , I should .
Maggie PattenI don't know , we don't even know where we were . Well , I should find it and I should call it out here , because they were just the cutest .
Whitten MontgomeryIt was really cute . We enjoyed it . We had a good time and Maggie was being super . I mean , she and I like documentaries , she and I like to watch stuff . But this was not a Dateline car ride . I couldn't listen to anything . Everything was scaring me about what .
Maggie PattenI went through .
Whitten MontgomeryWe were only able to listen to funny or ghosts Normally we could listen to crime .
Maggie PattenOh , yeah , yeah . But when we finally got back on the road , fucking Maggie .
Whitten MontgomeryThought about trying a Dateline , trying to get us directions going .
Maggie PattenYou know Keith Morrison , dateline and we started that and it was like nope .
Whitten MontgomeryI couldn't do it .
Maggie PattenWe talked to my sister for like Two and a half hours .
Whitten Montgomerytwo and a half three hours , yeah um , we talked to my family a bunch too we did yes , we did uh , but I do remember that we were in the car a little longer than we needed oh my god so maggie was I . I was driving actually at this point and maggie had um okay , listen to preface this y'all .
Maggie PattenWe live in louisville , kentucky , and we have a new bridge that has tolls on it , so I don't go to Indiana often , but I do just have my phone set to no tolls on my map and apparently there are tolls that we could have gone through driving back home In the light of like two and a half to three hours .
Maggie PattenYeah , but I didn't realize that my fucking maps was still set to that . And I drove a fair amount of the way back and at one point we stopped for gas or something and whiton was like wait , like where are we ?
Whitten MontgomeryI was like I've never seen this before and I made this drive a lot of times like what ?
Maggie Pattenand I was like show me your map .
Whitten MontgomeryYeah , it's okay's okay . We got more time together . It didn't add that much time to the trip , but Well , yeah , because we could have gone a lot farther on to it , the whole , we actually backtracked , I think we went an hour and backtracked an hour .
Maggie PattenWhen we realized it we did have to backtrack , just Because it would have been a whole three hour extra .
Whitten MontgomeryYeah , yeah .
Maggie PattenYes , extra , yeah , yeah , yes . So moral of the stories check your fucking settings on your maps because you might have the no tolls on and and if you call the police for help , they might arrest you . That's true two , two things for you to think about in the future but we got home and we did get home . I'm grateful for you . I'm glad I was there . Well , it was a terribly shitty trip , but I'm glad I was there . Well , it was a terribly shitty trip , but I'm glad I was there with you .
Whitten MontgomeryI'm glad you were too Okay . So , after Maggie made it very clear that she's so glad you came with me on this trip to North Carolina to help me during my most grave moment of my life oh my God , I mean , that's how it feels .
Maggie PattenWell , yes , she's so glad she came , but I think this is the time to end episode two part two yes , I think that we've gone into much detail , much needed detail , but I think that we're probably good to wrap it up , but we hope you join us for episode three , because that's a good one . We do hope you join us for that one . In episode three we're going to discuss Whitten's journey back to North Carolina .
Maggie PattenBecause I had to go Because she had to go , and I say Whitten's journey because I did not make this trip .
Whitten MontgomeryIt's okay . Well , it was three weeks after you got to make a choice for your mental health .
Maggie PattenI did . I was summoned as a criminal , it's true , and honestly , the past trip took a lot out of me . So I laugh . But I laugh because you know we have to , you have to .
Courtroom TikTok Teaser
Maggie PattenIt was a pretty rough trip so I wasn't quite ready to go back because this trip was her going to court and there was going to be . You know , all of this was going to be Thrown back in my face , run back in your face , brought up in detail , and I just didn't think I could sit through that sadly . But uh , do you want to give a little teaser about something ? Um , something that helped ?
Whitten MontgomeryWell , I will say this court trip was horrible and anxiety ridden in all forms . But as a fun teaser I have to like just give all the snaps to my lawyer for his excellent work and for him saying your Honor , may I approach the bench to show you TikTok , and then the judge at the court being like's a tick tock , and so it's . It's an interesting time and I am sitting here , so you know it didn't end up poorly for me so you'll have to listen to episode three to hear about how tick tock helped whitten in court in court so until then , I would like for us to go back on mute .
Whitten MontgomeryBye !
